Bird spikes are a proven, long-lasting way to keep birds away from ledges and windowsills. While they work well, they are often installed on ledges with dark backgrounds, where they are more noticeable and unsightly, especially if the ledge is in a lower position. In front of a light-colored background, this is certainly not a problem, as the thin stainless steel rods of the spikes strip blend together smoothly.
The solution is to paint your spikes! Some clients who care about their business and image are willing to pay extra for this tiny detail. In our opinion, it’s well worth it!
Painting the spikes with spray paint is easy and the results are very satisfying. First, you need to find spray paint that is as close as possible to the existing background (test it on the background surface to save you a headache). You then need to decide whether to spray the spikes on-site, installed, or off-site prior to installation. I highly recommend painting them off-site unless the paint matches the background perfectly and you have taken all precautions not to wind the paint to other surfaces – the last thing you want is to repaint the entire front of the store or spend more than One day to remove paint drips from store signs. Choose an off-site indoor location and paint the spikes the day before installation day. Once the paint is dry, it’s ready to install.
